This guide walks through every feature of the Travel Packing List Maker, from generating your first list to exporting it for your trip.

1. Starting a New List

When you first open the tool, you'll see a welcome screen with the title "Travel Packing List Maker" and the tagline "Plan smarter. Pack lighter. Travel stress-free."

  • Click the "✈️ Create My Packing List" button to begin.
  • If you have a packing list saved from a previous visit, you'll be asked whether you want to continue where you left off or start fresh. Choose accordingly.

2. Filling Out Your Trip Details

You'll now see the trip setup form. Fill in the following:

Destination Type in where you're headed — e.g., "Bali," "Paris," "New York." This is just a label used at the top of your list, so it can be as specific or general as you like.

Trip Type Choose from the dropdown:

  • 🏖️ Beach Vacation
  • ❄️ Winter Trip
  • 💼 Business Trip
  • 🚗 Road Trip
  • 🏕️ Adventure Travel
  • 🌍 International Travel

This determines the core set of suggested items you'll get, so pick whichever best matches the nature of your trip.

Trip Duration Enter the number of days you'll be traveling (1–60). This number is used to automatically scale quantities like socks, underwear, and tops/bottoms, so it's worth getting roughly right.

Season Tap one of the chips: ☀️ Summer, ❄️ Winter, 🌸 Spring, or 🍂 Fall. If you select Winter here on a non-Winter trip type, a few cold-weather basics will be added automatically.

Travelers Tap one: 🧍 Solo, 👫 Couple, 👨‍👩‍👧 Family, or 👶 With Kids. Selecting "With Kids" adds a set of kid-specific essentials (wipes, diapers, kids' sunscreen, etc.) to your list.

Luggage Type Tap one: 🎒 Carry-on only, 🧳 Checked luggage, or 🎽 Backpack. This is currently a label for your own reference as you pack.

Once everything is filled in, click "🪄 Generate My Packing List".

3. Reviewing Your Generated List

Your list appears organized into categories: Clothing, Toiletries, Electronics, Travel Documents, Accessories, and Miscellaneous. Each category is shown as a collapsible card.

  • Click a category's header (or the ▼ arrow) to expand or collapse it.
  • Each category header shows a live count, like "3/8," telling you how many items in that category are packed.

4. Checking Off Items

For each item in a category:

  • Tap the checkbox on the left to mark it packed. The item's text will get a strikethrough, and your progress bar updates instantly.
  • Tap it again to unmark it.

5. Editing, Adding, and Removing Items

The list is fully editable:

  • Rename an item: Click directly into the item's text field and type a new name. Your change saves automatically.
  • Delete an item: Click the button next to any item to remove it entirely.
  • Add an item to a category: Scroll to the bottom of any category, type into the "Add item..." field, and either press Enter or click "+ Add".

6. Adding Custom Categories

If the default six categories don't cover everything, use the field above your list labeled "+ Add custom category". Type a name (e.g., "Photography Gear" or "Pet Supplies") and click Add — a new empty category card will appear, ready for you to add items to.

7. Tracking Your Progress

At the top of your list, you'll see:

  • A progress bar showing the percentage of items packed.
  • A counter (e.g., "12 / 40 packed").
  • An encouraging message that changes as you go — starting at "Start checking off items!" and ending at "You're ready to travel! ✈️🎉" once everything is checked.

A second, sticky version of this progress bar stays visible near the top of your screen as you scroll, so you always know how far along you are.

8. Exporting Your List

Once your list is ready (or even while it's in progress), use the export row:

  • 🖨️ Print — opens your browser's print dialog so you can print a physical copy.
  • 📋 Copy — copies a plain-text version of your list to your clipboard, organized by category with ✅/☐ symbols, ready to paste into notes, messages, or email.
  • ⬇️ Download PDF — downloads a nicely styled HTML file (named after your destination) that you can open, save, or print later.

9. Starting Over

If you're planning a new trip, click "🗑️ New Trip". You'll be asked to confirm, since this clears your current list completely and returns you to the welcome screen.

10. Your Progress Is Saved Automatically

You don't need to manually save anything — every check, edit, or addition is automatically stored in your browser. If you close the tab and come back later (on the same browser/device), your list picks up right where you left it.

Note: Since your list is saved locally in your browser, it won't carry over automatically if you switch devices or browsers — use the Copy or Download PDF options if you want to bring your list with you elsewhere.
